  • MEng level reaccreditation of the BEng (Chemical) program from the (UK) Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE)

  • Launch of Specialization Option in Biomolecular Engineering and Process & Systems Engineering
  • Host the continuation of the Molecular Engineering of Biological and Chemical Systems program under Phase 2 of the Singapore-MIT Alliance: Chemical & Pharmaceutical Engineering

2004

  • First batch of BTech (Chemical Engineering) graduates
  • Renamed Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering
  • The Department becomes the first foreign academic entity to be invited to join the (US) Council for Chemical Research in Washington, DC, an organization consisting of most of the US chemical research enterprise whose mission is to promote cooperation in basic research and to encourage high-quality education in the chemical sciences and engineering.

  • First batch of MSc (SHE) graduates
  • Launch of MSc in Chemical Engineering and BTech in Chemical Engineering
  • The Chemical Engineering Program received substantial equivalency recognition from the (US) Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) for a period of six years through September 30, 2005

1998

  • Renamed Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering
  • Launch of NUS-UIUC Cooperative Program in Chemical Engineering
  • Launch of MSc in Safety, Health and Environmental Technology

1997

  • First batch of Graduate Diploma (Environmental Engineering) graduates
  • Launch of BEng in Environmental Engineering

1996

  • First batch of MSc (Environmental Engineering) graduates

  • Launch of Graduate Diploma and MSc in Environmental Engineering

  • First graduate with PhD in Chemical Engineering

  • First batch of BEng (Chemical) graduates

1970 - 1979

1979

  • Department of Chemical Engineering was transferred to the Faculty of Engineering. The degree was renamed BEng (Chemical Engineering).

1978

  • First batch of students graduated with BSc (Chemical Engineering)

1975

  • The Applied Chemistry Section was separated from the Department of Chemistry to form the Department of Chemical Engineering

1960-1969

1969

  • Applied Chemistry was extended to the second year BSc degree in the Department of Chemistry in Faculty of Science

1965

  • First batch of BSc (Applied Chemistry) graduates

1963

  • To provide fundamental knowledge in Chemical Engineering, Applied Chemistry was introduced as a Third and Honours Year science course in the Department of Chemistry in Faculty of Science
