Waste Grease to Fuel the Car

A new catalytic system to transform free fatty acids into transportation fuels, in the absence of hydrogen gas, and other auxiliary reagents, over cheap Ni based catalyst was developed. It holds to promise the convert waste grease to diesel, for which the current technology based on transesterification reactions could not handle. The work was selected as the Journal Front Cover in Green Chemistry, and is highlighted by Chemistry World in an article “From chip fat to biofuel”: http://www.rsc.org/chemistryworld/2015/07/cooking-oil-biofuel-nickel-nanoparticles
